Silica 2013 Magnum
Enjoyable now or can keep 5+ years.
Medium burgundy, cherry highlights, slightly darker/more opaque than the Alluvia. Clean! The nose shows loads of dark fruit, blackberry jam, black cherry. Lots of intensity. Some licorice notes here too, but really leading with the pie filling/jammy qualities that tend to be a Silica identifier. The palate is smooth with integrated tannins, a little surprising since the structure on Silica tends to be more rigid than Alluvia. Dry tannins through mid-palate to finish, backed up by roundness and substantial weight. Really taking well to aging in the larger format bottle. A lot of repeated aromatics from the nose, so definitely can age longer and open up even more!
