Pinot Blanc 2019

Pinot Blanc 2019

A first vintage for Intersection, combining bright fruit with lavish texture.

After blending the 2019 Mile's Edge White, Mel had some Pinot Blanc left, enough to fill a 500-L neutral puncheon. She transferred the Pinot Blanc there and kept it aging for a year. The variety itself is often overlooked, but we find it balanced, aromatic, and fresh as either a standalone variety or a component for our white blend, which has steadily gained in popularity since we started incorporating the Pinot Blanc into it. The use of the puncheon adds depth and maturity to the wine, elevating it in impression, improving the texture, and demonstrating the quality of the fruit that we found.

As this is a Small Lot Series wine, we are limiting purchases of this bottle to 2 per address.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Honey crisp apple, light floral notes and clover honey/light caramel on the nose. Aromatic and interesting! Palate is led by toffee apple, juicy lemon and pear. Finishes with fresh grated nutmeg, a hint of spices to balance the fruit and floral characters. Good length, showing a little maturity but it's well-placed.
Production Notes
100% from Castoro d'Oro vineyards, picked September 19th, 2019. Pressed into stainless tank and fermented there, then transferred the extra to puncheon for 12 months (no lees). Taken out of puncheon with little adjustment needed other than cold- and protein-stabilizing before bottling in August 2021.
Food Pairing Notes
Perfect for slow-cooker meals, stews, and roasts. A nice white for the cooler months. Will hold well for two years at least, more if you want a bigger toffee profile! Pair with Mel's slow cooker lentil stew, or shiitake-miso soup.
