Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
In the glass, its medium garnet hue hints at the depth within. The nose bursts with fresh sweet cherry and raspberry, layered with toasty oak, black pepper, and a savoury touch of plum preserves. On the palate, the classic spice of Cabernet Franc takes center stage, complemented by juicy red fruit and a subtle note of red bell pepper. A bright backbone of acidity gives this wine both structure and elegance, making it a delight to enjoy now or a worthy candidate for cellaring over the 3-5 years, and well beyond.
Production Notes
The 2022 vintage brought cooler temperatures and higher rainfall, but the maturity of our southern vineyard helped balance the fruit from our still-young Cabernet Franc vines. Careful site selection and patience paid off, with harvest split between October 21st for our estate block and November 5th for the remaining fruit. Aged for 20 months in a mix of new and neutral French and American oak barriques, this wine showcases both structure and finesse. Despite the challenges of the season, the quality of the fruit allowed us to craft this long-time favourite once again, highlighting the resilience and character of Cabernet Franc in the South Okanagan.
Winemaker Notes
Intersection Estate has long been dedicated to Merlot, but its passion for Cabernet Franc is undeniable. This resilient Bordeaux varietal thrives in the South Okanagan, where the winery's commitment to its potential has grown from a mere 140 test vines to nearly a full acre planted in 2018. Despite environmental challenges, their Cabernet Franc has flourished, and the 2022 vintage is a testament to both patience and expertise. Sourced equally from Intersection’s own vines and a skilled Osoyoos grower, this fruit forms the backbone of both the Axiom blend and an ultra-limited Small Lot release. With only 100 cases or fewer produced, this single-varietal Cabernet Franc offers a rare glimpse into the evolving expression of this steadfast grape in BC’s wine country.
Food Pairing Notes
This vintage is a perfect match for whole roasted duck, especially when accented with star anise, cracked black pepper, and a touch of orange zest—bringing out the wine’s rich fruit, warm spice, and refined complexity.
